Greetings, dear friends!
We wanted to take our leave of 2015 by thanking all of you for your support in 2015 (even in those cases where it was purely vibrational; we felt it).
This year was a monumental one for the five of us both personally and musically. In the personal sphere, 2015 witnessed the full cycle of life from which the name Whale Fall is derived: we and our families experienced the joy and promise of birth, the celebration and lifelong commitment of marriage, and the sorrow (for those of us left behind), finality, and uncertain possibilities (for those going on) of death.
On the musical front, we are reminded that in the late David Foster Wallace’s novel Infinite Jest, years were not designated by numbers but rather by corporate sponsors. For Whale Fall, 2015 was The Year of The Madrean. Nothing corporate about it, mind you, but rather a year which for us was defined musically by the propogation of our second full-length record, The Madrean, and a series of live shows featuring material from the album.
The December 2014 digital release of The Madrean, which garnered a long list of rave reviews, accolades, and best-of spots for which we are humbled and very grateful, was followed up in 2015 by the album’s release in three additonal formats: CD, double LP, and cassette (the latter thanks to our friends at Harmacy Records out of U.K.).
We are particularly proud of the LP version of this release, which is a double 12-inch vinyl LP featuring a cover that is unique to the LP as well as a 10-page booklet of beautiful artwork by Jordan Lee (also exclusive to the LP). We have included a few photographs to mark the end of The Year.…
We also spent part of 2015 writing and demo’ing new material for a future album. Please watch this space for updates. None of us knows what 2016 holds in store but we are excited about the possibilities.
In the meantime, both The Madrean and our debut album, Whale Fall, as well as Whale Fall T-shirts designed by Jordan Lee, remain available for streaming and sale at whalefall.bandcamp.com. (As to the cassette version of The Madrean, if interested please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can assist, as they are not sold through us.) Music, images, reviews, and more info are also available on our website, whalefall.com.
In closing (and opening…), the five of us — Aaron, Ali, Dave, J-Matt, and Tokle — want to wish you a most joyful, peaceful, and beautiful 2016. We thank you again for your many forms of support and look forward to the bold future ahead. Whale Fall is in your corner.
